Nutrition & Behavior

Nutrition plays a KEY part in your pet’s behavior. Weird right?

We all want our pets to feel well. And as we all know they have different nutritional needs. Recently I have talked to a lot of pets with nutritional needs. They have been displaying behaviors that would not normally be connected to nutrition.

So what does his mean? If your pet is doing something abnormal, weird, or naughty… they might not feel good and they might be trying to tell you that. Not all of the “symptoms” are obvious. We all know to look for itching, licking, redness, runny stools, etc.. But there are other things too…

Sometimes anxiety is caused from a belly ache. The animal gets nervous about the way their belly feels.

Sometimes lethargy or hyper activity is caused from food. It all depends how your animal processed the food you feed.

Sometimes really weird things show from food sensitivities

* Food Aggression (Angry at the food)

* Getting into the trash (Trying to find more agreeable food)

* Refusing to move (body feels heavy)

* Grumpiness (not all animals are just grumpy, maybe they don’t feel well)

* Don’t like their feet touched (feet inflamed from food)

The list is ENDLESS.

The tricky part is a lot of these issues can be caused by other things too. Environmental stressors, baggage, physical illness, lack of mental stimulation, etc.

So what is the solution? All animals need different food. Some have steel stomachs and some can barely tolerate human grade chicken.

Trial and error. Or ask them during a communication session.

You can also try letting them pick. Animals know what they need. You can put a few different kinds in front of them and see which they prefer. However if you have a real food champ they may choose all! Lol!

It’s hard to know. All we can do is try our best. Though there is no sure fire way to know you are giving your animal the best food for that specific animal unless you ask, my point here is… if you animal is doing something that is “off” or “naughty” in anyway, give your pet the benefit of the doubt. It might be something as simple as a food sensitivity. A very easy fix.

Animals want to feel good and when they don’t feel good they are going to do things to show you they don’t feel good. Don’t ever ignore or brush off these subtle cues from them.
